Ramblings from Route 66

Feeling a bit weathered these days?  Let me take you back to the summer of 2010, it was hot and well, there were days when you could have fried eggs and grits right on the sidewalk.  Luckily, the folks at Monarch did a total overhaul of their kitchen instead and their grits, served with succulent shrimp, are prepared in a pristine kitchen by renowned Chef Josh Galliano.
_47X0652_thumb.jpgNow, it seems time is fleeting.  January is already upon us and will soon elude us so hurry, there are just a couple of nights left to make your belly and your budget happy.   The remaining Tuesday and Monday of January (January 25th and January 31st) Monarch is featuring their “pay what you wish” dinner menu.  If you have not been to Monarch since they debuted their Southern Bistro Menu you must go now and try the new menu and new concept.  Visit Monarch on Facebook to find out more information.

What else is new?

Gisele’s, our favorite Parisian boutique, has found a nouveau address at 7318 Manchester.  Gisele’s moved from Sutton but the lights were barely dim in the former space and now Mezzanine is hanging their shingle at 2741 Sutton the first week of February (more to come on that date!)January 2016_thumb.jpg

Speaking of February, that brings us to thoughts of Valentine’s Day (and don’t worry there will be plenty to discuss about that soon!).  Kakao Chocolate  (voted best chocolate by Sauce and The RFT) is opening a second location at 7272 Manchester and will be ready to save the day with boxes of delicious chocolates, truffles and creative chocolate creations for your sweetheart.  Look for our post for opening day information.

Acero continues the St. Louis Chef Wars with the finale on February 23rd at Acero.  Chef Jim Fiala will compete with one of his own top chefs.  This will not only be like a live version of the TV show Iron Chef, the food promises to be outstanding. Please call 644-1790 for reservations.

Boogaloo swings into the New Year with a brand-new website and fun events.  Check it out:

thepost_thumb.bmpThe Post Sports Bar and Grill has expanded happy hour and added a late night happy hour.  You can be sure they are planning something big for the Super Bowl.

Healing Arts Center has debuted a new logo and will be offering new classes soon. The Healing Arts Center, St. Louis’ oldest, established school of massage offering an accredited and holistic program of study, will begin new classes on March 14th. HAC_logoFINAL_small_thumb.jpgThe Healing Arts Center provides a supportive atmosphere which integrates mind, body, and spirit, and promotes learning, challenge, and growth for students. They also offer a variety of Continuing Education classes for professionals as well as a Student Clinic, Professional Clinic, massage supplies and equipment, and bookstore. We took advantage of the weather breaking for a few days back in December (no one remembers this) and installed our Route 66 Memorial and Tribute plaques.  We are planning a proper celebration and for those Route 66 fanatics out there, look for Route 66 influences around Maplewood as summer approaches.   We are constructing webpages to go along with the plaques, checkout our progress!

WomenMakingHistory_Logo_1000RGB_thumb.jpgCan’t wait for summer?  You can get a nifty Maplewood Route 66 bag on-sale at City Hall for $1.00 or if you can wait until March 2nd, you can get one for free at the 5th Annual Women Making History event at Saint Louis Closet Co. and Saint Louis Cellars from 5 p.m to 7:30 p.m .  This is your opportunity to network, partake in food and wine tastings and of course, men are welcome.  Maplewood is home to close to 180 women-owned and managed businesses and each year we celebrate in a convention-like setting.   The event is free and open to the public but please RSVP to

Finally, the Academy Awards were announced today and coincidentally St. Louis Magazine announced nominations for certain categories and opened their reader’s voting for the A-List Awards.  Vote for LaChef and Co. as your favorite caterer!  More categories will be added soon.

That is about all we have to ramble about right now but if you haven’t had enough, find us on for daily updates on events and happenings.
